ReWork

👍 Worth It

Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson built Basecamp without investors, without a traditional business plan, and without burning out their team — and 'ReWork' distills what they learned into short, punchy essays that challenge nearly every default assumption about how businesses should operate. The case against workaholism, unnecessary meetings, and chasing competitors is made with real-world credibility rather than theory. A New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller for good reason. The honest caveat is that this advice was developed inside a bootstrapped software company, and some of it transfers poorly to capital-intensive businesses, regulated industries, or competitive markets where ignoring rivals has real consequences. A few essays also oversimplify genuinely complex tradeoffs. Note that DHH has become a polarizing public figure in recent years; the book predates those controversies and should be evaluated on its own terms. For entrepreneurs and independent workers, the core message — do meaningful work, do it well, do not do everything — remains useful.
