Granta 16 is one of those rare magazine issues that actually changed how people thought about a form of writing — gathering Sacks, Levi, Calvino, Gould, and O'Brien under one roof and making the case that science writing had become literature. The contributors alone make it extraordinary, and the thematic coherence across very different pieces is a genuine editorial achievement. The Star Wars discussion has dated and the magazine format means uneven depth, but this is a document worth having.
