Robinson maintains the heroic fantasy momentum well into book four, which is genuinely hard to do in a long self-published series. Loren is a credibly drawn protagonist and the conspiracy plot keeps the stakes real. But without trade editorial oversight, derivative world-building goes unchecked, and this is simply not the place to enter the series.
