Early Tami Hoag means more romance than thriller — and that's both the appeal and the limitation here. The small-town Minnesota setting with its Amish backdrop is atmospheric, and Elizabeth Stuart is a believable protagonist trying to rebuild her life. But Publishers Weekly's 'more static than still' critique points to real pacing problems, and this is adult romantic suspense that belongs on an adults-only shelf rather than a family one.
