Finley's 1952 monograph is a cornerstone of ancient economic history and still cited by classical scholars today, but the epigraphic density makes it inaccessible to anyone outside that narrow specialty. If you are a researcher working on Athenian property law it belongs on your desk; everyone else will find it impenetrable.
