This is solid, earnest academic ethnography that gives real voice to Taiwanese women entrepreneurs — a group that deserved more attention in 2003 and still does. But the narrow geographic scope, 1980s fieldwork timeline, and academic register make it a specialist resource rather than a broadly useful read. Finance and entrepreneurship readers will find it too sociological; gender studies readers will find it too dated.
