Series ✦ Penny’s Take
The Adventure of the Devil's Foot
Arthur Conan Doyle · 2018
82/100
👍 Worth It
One of the better Holmes short stories — atmospheric, emotionally surprising, and with a satisfying double-mystery that ends on a genuinely ambiguous moral note. Holmes letting the avenger walk free because he understands the grief behind the act is one of Doyle's rare moments of compassion in the canon. The public-domain text is freely available, so the 2018 reprint adds nothing new, but the story itself absolutely earns your time.
