These two Crusader-era tales from the author of Ivanhoe hold up as classics for a reason, and The Talisman in particular stands out for treating Saladin with real dignity rather than as a stock villain. The prose is dense and 19th-century in style, so it's a book for patient readers, but the chivalry and moral complexity are worth the climb.
