A faithful, accessible Grimm retelling with simple vocabulary and cheerful illustrations—perfectly competent for a 5-to-8-year-old just starting to read independently. The musical theme the title promises is largely absent, and the story wraps up before it really gets going. Worth borrowing from the library, but there is not enough here to justify buying.
