π Worth It
The Chill Factor is a lean, well-paced Cold War thriller that makes excellent use of Iceland's bleak volcanic landscape and Lambert's real experience as a foreign correspondent. The Daily Mail and New York Times both praised the plotting, and Ragnar Jonasson's foreword on the 2021 reissue signals its standing in the Nordic-noir adjacent world. The protagonist's womanising is dated and the double-cross structure is formulaic, but for readers who enjoy classic genre espionage, this one delivers.
