Jacobus was a genuinely significant figure in 19th-century American Presbyterianism — Moderator of the last Old School General Assembly, co-presider at reunion — and these posthumous sermons carry the weight of that history alongside an autobiographical section that's rarely available. For Reformed theology enthusiasts and church historians this is a meaningful primary source; for everyone else the dense Victorian sermonic prose and narrow theological focus will make it hard going.
