The Heron crew gets blown ashore into unfamiliar country, rescues two kids from a bear, and gets pulled into rising tension between two rival tribes - Publishers Weekly called it an 'enjoyable, old-fashioned tale' and School Library Journal praised its vocabulary-rich, endearing new characters. This is genuinely well-crafted adventure fiction. Just know it carries real tribal-warfare violence, so it's better suited to older middle-grade readers than little ones.
