Fitzgerald's takedown of the American Dream is as sharp today as it was in 1925 — tight, lyrical, and endlessly quotable, which is exactly why it's still a classroom staple. There's a domestic violence scene, a fatal car accident, and a period-specific slur that deserve a heads-up for younger teens, but nothing that should keep this off most family shelves with a little context. A genuine classic worth the short time it takes to read.
