The thematic cross-cultural approach is a genuinely smart way to organize a comparative mythology overview, and Ions covers an impressive breadth in 192 pages. The trouble is that 192 pages is simply too thin to do justice to the scope claimed β you get an introduction to everything and depth on almost nothing, which makes it a better coffee-table companion than a serious reference.
