Skye writes beautiful sentences and the Alaska setting is genuinely atmospheric, but reviewers who loved the prose still found Helene underwritten and the emotional dialogue thin β and that's a problem when the whole book asks you to feel the weight of a centuries-long love story. The premise is melancholy and creative; the execution doesn't fully earn it.
