Wells' cautionary tale about science without conscience still holds up as a tight, suspenseful read, and Griffin's slow slide into menace is genuinely unsettling in a good way. It's violent at the climax and Griffin himself is hard to root for, but there's nothing here that should worry parents of older kids and teens picking up a classic. A sturdy, accessible entry point into early sci-fi.
