π Worth It
Lily Brooks-Dalton writes the slow drowning of Florida with lyrical precision, and Wanda is one of the more fully realized protagonists in recent climate fiction β her life traced across decades without the novel ever losing its intimacy. The pacing stumbles in the middle, and the quasi-mystical undercurrent will not suit every reader, but the prose and the emotional stakes are consistently high. One of the most thoughtful cli-fi novels in recent years.
β¦ Penny’s Take β this is The Review Group’s own editorial assessment. Penny’s analytical review line researched this book from real sources and scored it across the lenses shown below. It’s an honest first-party read β not a page-by-page personal one. The gold β Penny Tested mark is reserved for books Penny reads cover to cover herself.
β Parent note β our reviewers flagged: LGBTQ+ identity thread; adult content including death and social breakdown. We still scored it 81; these are context for your family, not an automatic skip.
