The Mediator #3

Meg Cabot · 2009
86/100
👍 Worth It

In this third Mediator installment, ghost-whisperer Suze Simon discovers the "RLS Angels" — popular students who died in a prom-night crash — are now targeting the classmate they blame for the accident. While her visiting friend Gina adds energy to the B-plot, Suze has to unravel what really happened that night before someone gets killed. Meg Cabot's strengths are on full display: Suze is witty, clever, and easy to root for, the mystery has real stakes, and the romance with ghost Jesse de Silva stays appropriately chaste for the target audience. The honest caveat is that the chapter-by-chapter ghost-drama structure is predictable, and the series really does need to be read in order for the character dynamics to land. For middle school readers who enjoy paranormal mystery with a light touch of romance, this is a reliable and fun series.
