The Shoemaker and His Elves

A competent leveled-reader retelling of the Grimm classic, suitable for beginning readers and classroom read-alouds with its gentle moral about gratitude and kindness. The illustrations feel dated by current picture-book standards and there is no interpretive ambition beyond faithful simplification, but the source story is beloved enough to carry it. Best treated as a classroom literacy tool rather than a standout picture-book experience.
