The Bastable kids scheming their way through one harebrained money-making plan after another is still funny and still touching, thanks to that wonderfully sly child-narrator voice. It's genuinely influential — even J.K. Rowling called it her favorite Nesbit — and the sibling loyalty at its heart never feels forced. Lovely to read aloud together.
