The Visitor
The fourth Jack Reacher novel is the most puzzle-minded of the early series. When two women Reacher once investigated are found dead and his own profile matches the killer's, the FBI pulls him in to help hunt the real culprit — a clever locked-room twist for a series better known for direct action. Reacher's principled, eccentric logic keeps the pages moving, and Kirkus called it deeply satisfying for good reason. The honest caveat is that the resolution hangs on a hypnotherapy mechanism that strains credibility, and the female victims remain underdeveloped as characters. Subject matter — sexual harassment, psychological coercion, and murder — makes this firmly adult reading. For Reacher fans who want something more cerebral than usual, this one earns its place.
