The form is genuinely unusual — 101 haiku functioning as a novel of immigrant experience — and Oprea's rendering of the American South through an outsider's eye has real beauty in places. But the audience for haiku-structured immigrant poetry is narrow, critical coverage is thin, and the work is primarily of interest to readers already invested in experimental form. A curiosity more than a recommendation.
