This Palgrave collection brings together genuine heavyweights — Terry Eagleton and J. Hillis Miller among them — to apply contemporary literary theory to Hardy's work, and the introduction alone has been cited by subsequent Hardy scholars. But it is narrowly specialized, selectively scoped, paywalled behind SpringerLink for most readers, and mislabeled in the catalog. If you are a Hardy researcher or advanced Victorian-literature student, it is a useful survey of where the field stood in 2004; for everyone else, it has no practical value.
