Self-help ✦ Penny’s Take
UnChristian America
Michael Babcock · 2008
78/100
👍 Worth It
Babcock does something genuinely difficult — he uses careful American religious history to challenge a myth (the Christian nation narrative) that is deeply embedded in evangelical culture, and he does it from inside that culture rather than as a critic lobbing from outside. Internet Monk's endorsement and the church study group adoption suggest it is landing with the audience that most needs to hear it. Readers who hold Christian nationalist views will push back hard, but that friction is actually the point.
