Rubel Shelly brings genuine theological depth to James — his Vanderbilt credentials and decades of pastoral work show in the verse-by-verse structure. But at 128 pages this is introductory rather than definitive, and its appeal is largely confined to Churches of Christ study circles. Worth picking up if that's your community, but there are richer commentaries on James for everyone else.
