Why Marriages Succeed or Fail

John Gottman · 2012
82/100
👍 Worth It

Gottman's Four Horsemen framework — criticism, contempt, defensiveness, withdrawal — is one of the most practically useful concepts in the popular relationship literature, and this is where it first reached a general audience. The self-diagnostic tools set it apart from advice-book competitors built on anecdote alone. Some findings have been refined in Gottman's later work and the sample diversity critique is fair, but the core insights hold and this remains a better starting point for couples than most of what followed it.
