Howie and Jobling's collection asks genuinely difficult questions — can transcendence be reimagined from a feminist perspective within Judaism, Islam, and Christianity, as well as secular theory? — and the presence of Luce Irigaray as keynote contributor signals serious philosophical ambition. But this is a highly specialized edited volume presupposing fluency in Continental philosophy and feminist theory, and the uneven chapter quality inherent to the format limits its overall impact. A text for specialists, not general readers.
