Self-help ✦ Penny’s Take
Your Mind and How to Use It

Atkinson's 1911 survey of the human mind's faculties — attention, memory, imagination, reasoning — is a historically significant piece of the self-help canon, and freely available on Project Gutenberg. For readers curious about where the self-improvement genre came from, it is a fascinating artifact. But the psychology is over a century out of date, the New Thought metaphysical underpinning colors the whole framework, and the Victorian prose will lose most contemporary readers before they reach the practical exercises.
