A Nervous Night

👍 Worth It

Katie Woo is excited to sleep over at her grandparents' house — until she arrives and realizes the unfamiliar setting makes her stomach flutter. In just 24 pages, this early reader does something genuinely useful: it names that nervous feeling, shows Katie working through it, and closes warmly. For a kindergartner navigating separation anxiety or first overnights, seeing a relatable character manage the same jitters is genuinely reassuring. The grandparent relationship modeled here is tender and warm. The main caveat is the format's brevity — even early readers may feel the story moves too quickly to fully settle in — and series formula keeps any single installment from being especially memorable on its own. As a comfort read for a nervous five- or six-year-old, though, it earns its place on the shelf.
