A World of Fairy Tales

Neil Philip drew from Andrew Lang's classic Colored Fairy Books to assemble 24 tales from 16 countries — Iceland, Zimbabwe, Turkey, Japan, and more — and then deliberately left out Cinderella and Rumpelstiltskin. The result is a genuine collection of discovery: tales most readers won't already know, accompanied by Henry Justice Ford's lush original illustrations and source notes that give context. The archaic, poetic language is a real strength for read-aloud use but may slow confident independent readers in the eight-to-twelve range. A beautiful, substantive anthology for library shelves, classrooms, and families who want folklore with real geographic reach.
