Abby Cadabby's Rhyme Time

Sesame Street's fairy-in-training Abby Cadabby makes a natural guide to rhyming: her magic spells require them, so every lesson has built-in stakes she can relate to. P. J. Shaw and illustrator Tom Leigh work through a handful of rhyme pairs — tub and cub, sheep and leap, fiesta and siesta — via encounters with beloved Sesame characters, and the book closes with a warm family bedtime scene. For Sesame Street fans, the familiar faces do a lot of the work, and the rhyming instruction lands naturally inside the story. The book is short at 24 pages with a thin plot, so it is not asking much of anyone — which is also its limitation. It is a rhyming exercise dressed up as a story more than the other way around. Still a solid, safe choice for its age range.
