A paleontologist wrote this one, and it shows in the careful, accurate descriptions of ten post-dinosaur mammals paired with lovely detailed watercolors. The author is upfront that the animals are ordered for drama rather than strict time order, which I appreciate as honesty, though it means don't expect a tidy chronology lesson.
