Am I Blue?
This 1994 anthology, edited by Marion Dane Bauer with contributions from Bruce Coville, Lois Lowry, Jacqueline Woodson, Jane Yolen, and other major YA voices, is a landmark in LGBTQ young adult publishing β pioneering, award-winning (Lambda Literary Award, Stonewall Book Award), and assembled with genuine literary seriousness. As a historical artifact of YA publishing and as a collection of stories about gay and lesbian experience in adolescence, it is exactly what it set out to be. For the Penny for Your Thoughts platform and its faith-family-safe audience, it falls clearly outside scope: the anthology centers explicitly on LGBTQ coming-out narratives, it appears on the ALA's frequently challenged books list, and families seeking content aligned with traditional values regarding sexuality will find this incompatible. The strengths are real; the audience fit is not. Review accordingly and note the content plainly for any reader encountering it here.
