Animals Collection

95/100
👍 Worth It

Michael Morpurgo served as UK Children's Laureate, and these three novellas — The Butterfly Lion, The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips, and Born to Run — show why he earned that honor. Each centers on a child and an animal navigating loss, war, or danger, and Morpurgo's warmth and emotional precision make all three work. The gift box format is genuinely attractive for a present to a middle-grade reader. The one honest note for parents is that wartime settings and animal peril are emotionally real here — Morpurgo does not soften loss — so very young or sensitive children may need a parent alongside. For readers 8 and up, though, this is exactly the kind of collection that turns children into lifelong readers. Worth giving.
