Annabelle's Awful Waffle
Part of Willowisp Press's Predictable Read Together series from 1995, this early reader follows siblings Annabelle and Andy — very different from one another — through a food-centered mishap involving the titular waffle before finding common ground. The predictable-text format, designed so emergent readers can anticipate and join in, makes it a solid tool for kindergarten and early first-grade classrooms. The alliterative title is immediately memorable, and the sibling dynamic is the kind kids recognize right away. The real caveat is availability: the Willowisp series has been out of print for decades, independent critical coverage is nearly nonexistent, and tracking down a copy today is genuinely difficult. If you find one, it's a functional early literacy tool. But it is not easy to find. Fully family-safe.
