Bedtime for Laura

Laura Ingalls Wilder · 1996
91/100
👍 Worth It

Bedtime for Laura is a board book in the My First Little House series, based on Laura Ingalls Wilder's pioneer stories and illustrated by Renée Graef, whose warm, period-faithful artwork has made the series a staple for Little House fans with very young children. The story is as simple as it gets: young Laura drifts off to sleep while Pa plays his fiddle, and the cozy frontier atmosphere does the rest. For grandparents who grew up with the Little House books and now want to share something from that world with toddlers, this is a sweet bridge. Just know what you're getting — at the board book level the narrative is minimal by design, and older fans of the Wilder canon won't find much new here. As a gentle bedtime read for ages two through six, it does exactly what it sets out to do.
