Birthday Beastie

Bee-Bop the Beastie's birthday party gives Kirsten Hall a cheerful framework to practice counting with early readers, and the rhyming text does double duty — building phonemic awareness at the same time it builds number sense. The Beastieville series from Children's Press was designed with K-1 curriculum alignment in mind, and this title fits that purpose cleanly. The embedded thinking activities extend each page beyond passive reading. The honest caveat is that this is curriculum support first and storytelling second — the birthday narrative is a vehicle for the math, not the other way around. The Beastie characters have limited personality beyond the counting exercises. For classroom use or math-focused home reading, it does the job it was designed to do.
