Boy, Resisting
Set in Nazi-occupied Paris, Boy, Resisting follows Frederick, a boy pulled into the French Resistance while trying to keep his family safe and his cover intact. The diary format creates the immediacy middle-grade readers respond to, and the subject matter β a child navigating genuine moral danger β is historically rich territory the genre handles well. Wartime danger and spy missions are present but age-appropriate by the standards of WWII middle-grade fiction; themes of courage and protecting family align with faith-friendly values. The honest caveat is that this is a Kickstarter-launched indie title released in September 2025, and independent critical reviews are nearly nonexistent as of mid-2026. The premise is strong, but readers should know the track record is still being established.
