Camp Nowhere

Camp Nowhere is a 1994 novelization of the Walt Disney Pictures comedy of the same name, adapted by Cathy East Dubowski from the original screenplay. The story follows twelve-year-old Mud Himmel and his friends, each sentenced to a miserable specialty summer camp, who recruit a broke former drama teacher to pose as the director of a fake camp with no rules and no parents — until the scheme inevitably begins to unravel. At 122 pages, the novelization tracks the film closely and delivers the same lightweight comic-scheme energy. Christopher Lloyd played the teacher in the film, which earned a 6.1 on IMDb and retains nostalgic appeal for readers who grew up watching it. The honest caveats are two: this adds nothing beyond the film itself, existing purely as tie-in merchandise, and the premise of kids systematically deceiving their parents may not sit comfortably with family-values audiences. For middle-grade readers who love the movie, though, it's a fun companion.
