Priscilla Hawthorne, a librarian trained in folklore and children's literature, curated this anthology with a knowing hand — mixing Robert Louis Stevenson's 'The Body Snatcher' with dark fairy tale retellings (including a Hansel and Gretel told from the witch's perspective) and other spine-tingling selections. For older children who have graduated from Goosebumps and want something with more literary weight, the range here is genuinely interesting. Parents should know upfront: the horror is intentional and classically styled, making it unsuitable for sensitive younger readers or families who prefer faith-centered content. Critical coverage is slim and distribution was modest, so it's not a guaranteed find. But for the right ten-to-fourteen-year-old reader, it's a solid introduction to horror's literary roots.
