Children's ✦ Penny’s Take

Chip's Favorite Season does exactly what a licensed early reader is supposed to do — it uses a familiar Disney character to entice beginning readers through a simple, seasonally organised story. There is nothing wrong with it and it is perfectly safe for young children. But it has no literary ambition beyond brand extension, the plot is wafer-thin across 24 pages, and there is no independent critical validation. Young Disney fans will enjoy it briefly; it is not something a child will return to.
