Dinosaurs

Peter Zallinger's 1977 Pictureback entry is a child's first handshake with prehistoric life — simple text, full-color illustrations from an artist with genuine paleontological heritage (his father painted the famous Yale Peabody Museum mural), and pronunciations for the names parents will inevitably butcher. At 32 pages in a mass-market format, it was never designed for depth, and it delivers exactly what it promises: an accessible, friendly introduction for the very youngest dinosaur fans. The honest caveat is a significant one — nearly 50 years of paleontological discovery have overtaken some of the science here. That said, as a nostalgic entry-level dinosaur book with charming detailed illustrations, it still earns its place on a shelf for children ages three to seven, especially at an affordable price.
