Dinosaurs Before Dark

πŸ‘ Worth It

Jack and Annie find a tree house full of books, Jack wishes himself into a dinosaur picture, and suddenly they're standing in the Cretaceous period with a friendly Pteranodon overhead and a T-rex somewhere too close for comfort. Mary Pope Osborne's series opener does what great children's literature does: it makes reading itself the portal to adventure. The pacing is perfect for early chapter book readers, and real dinosaur facts slip in so naturally you barely notice them learning. Over 130 million copies sold globally says everything about how well it works. The thin caveat is that this book is short and simple enough to feel more like a teaser than a complete story β€” the medallion mystery introduced here pays off across future books. But as a first chapter book, it's nearly perfect.
