Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Sleigh!

Mo Willems brings his irrepressible Pigeon into the Christmas season and the results are exactly what fans of the series expect: a minimalist argument that somehow becomes a complete emotional experience. This time the Pigeon wants to do all the Santa things — wrap gifts, deliver them, eat every cookie — but a large, stinky reindeer guard stands in his way. The trademark elf hat, the escalating demands, the final non-sequitur pivot to bunny ears — it is pure Pigeon. Kirkus called it 'a stocking stuffer par excellence.' The honest caveat is that even by Pigeon-book standards the plot is thin, and readers who do not already love the character may not quite get the appeal. For families who do, it is a joyful holiday addition to the read-aloud stack.
