Dragons Love Tacos

Adam Rubin
86/100
👍 Worth It

Adam Rubin's picture book explains, with complete deadpan authority, that dragons love tacos — all tacos, all the time — but cannot handle spicy salsa. When a boy accidentally serves the wrong kind at his dragon party, fire is breathed, a house is destroyed, and the dragons help rebuild it so everyone can have more tacos. That's the whole book, and it's exactly enough. Salmieri's vibrant illustrations nail the comedy, and the read-aloud rhythm is irresistible — adults enjoy it as much as kids. The simple consequence of the salsa mishap lands without moralizing. The caveat is real: the plot is essentially one joke, and children who outgrow it quickly may not return to it. While it lasts, though, it's a classroom and storytime staple for good reason.
