Eeyore Loses a Tail

This 1993 standalone edition adapts Chapter IV of Milne's original Winnie-the-Pooh, in which Eeyore's tail goes missing, Pooh sets off to find it, and Owl is revealed to have been using it as a bell-pull. It is one of the gentlest, most quietly funny stories in the English children's canon, and E.H. Shepard's line illustrations are as timeless as anything in picture-book history. For very young children, Eeyore's persistent gloom may prompt a few questions worth answering together. The practical caveat is simply that this is repackaged material — a 1926 text in a 1993 format edition — and modern hardcover or complete-collection editions may offer better durability. But the story itself needs no defense. It has earned its place on the shelf many times over.
