Effie Goes to School handles the first-day-of-school anxiety with warmth and the rejection-to-friendship arc is age-appropriate and constructive. The self-published origins and near-absence of independent critical review make it hard to confidently elevate over the many well-reviewed picture books covering the same territory. A nice find if you stumble on it; not something to seek out.
