As a window into early twentieth-century science education — and as a document of a more cooperative, less eugenic approach to evolution than most 1919 textbooks — this has real historical interest. But it reflects 1919 knowledge, is written in archaic prose for 1919 students, and the modern reprint adds no updating commentary. As a biology text it is simply obsolete; as a history-of-science curiosity it is narrow.
