Children's β¦ Penny’s Take
Fairy Tales and Fantastic Stories
Terry Jones Β· 2007
87/100
π Worth It
Terry Jones wrote original fairy tales rather than retelling familiar ones, and the results are inventive, funny, and emotionally layered in the way the best children's stories are β think Roald Dahl's wit crossed with Hans Christian Andersen's willingness to let things be sad. Michael Rosen naming this one of the five best children's story collections of all time is not a small endorsement, and Michael Foreman's illustrations add genuine visual delight. A standout in the genre.
