E. Nesbit's retelling voice is the reason to choose this over a plain retelling — she brings genuine warmth, narrative wit, and an Edwardian storyteller's sense of timing that makes these nine classics feel freshly told rather than merely transcribed. At Dover's price point it's excellent value for classrooms and home libraries alike. Younger children may need adult help with some of Nesbit's phrasing, but that makes it a great read-aloud choice for the 8-to-12 range.
